For the book series on single professional routines, ‘Control’ is a staple of my repertoire. Imagine this: You tell the audience that you’ve placed a specific card in a specific position in the deck and that your goal is to influence their choices so they’ll stop at that exact spot. You explain that this isn’t a challenge but a demonstration of the incredible power of persuasion. You hold the deck face-down toward the audience and begin dropping cards one by one into a zip-lock bag. The participant stops at any point they like. You clearly take the card where they stopped, demonstrating that even a few cards later, they would have chosen completely different cards. You then place all the cards in the zip-lock bag and give it to the participant as a souvenir. As a finale, the freely chosen card is revealed inside an envelope that was sent a week earlier to the host of the event! This routine requires only a standard deck of cards and a zip-lock bag. Like all my routines, it’s simple in methodology, but the choreography and movements have been studied to perfection to ensure a seamless performance. This is a fantastic piece that can be used on stage, in parlor, or even in close-up performances.
