Timey Wimey by Michael O'Brien
A fun and easy to perform "Mystery Card" routine that ends with a full deck color change!
Magician Michael O'Brien lectures to the Orange County "Monday Night Jams" his new effect "Timey-Wimey" based on ideas and techniques from his book "The Imagine Nation Project."
The magician reveals a special set of four blank-faced cards that he claims will represent time and space itself. Before beginning the effect, he removes a mystery card from the deck and places it in full view, face-down on the table. The spectator is then handed the deck and asked to choose any card from the pack and remove it.
The deck is set aside and the selected card is lost in the middle of the four blank cards. By literally bending the packet of cards (time and space) the magician is able to make the card vanish and appear anywhere he chooses. First the top of the pack, then the bottom, then the card vanishes from the packet completely leaving him with just the four blank cards!
The mystery card is finally revealed to be the chosen card all along! But how did it get there? When did we go back in time to switch it? HOW? Believe it or not time is not a linear progression of cause and effect. It is indeed more of a ball of wobbly-wobbly, timey-wimey, stuff.... In fact you can even travel so far back to the beginning of time itself, er in this case to before the deck was even printed. The whole deck is then revealed to be completely blank! :)
This effect is fairly simple to perform with just a bit of practice. The use of blank cards is not necessary so this effect can be performed with a regular pack of cards!
You will also get a peek at Michael's own deck switch known as the "Switcheroo Deck Hold-out." The switch alone is worth the price of the routine!
Please enjoy and hope you all keep it up! Thank you for the support!
