You show the audience an ordinary rubber band. First, you demonstrate that you can put a twist in the band without taking it off your fingers. Then you do the impossible by tying a knot in a single strand of the rubber band. The knot appears in full view and can never be untied unless you cut the band in half. The rubber band can be examined by the spectator and even kept as a souvenir.
