Spinorama by William Lee
A small packet of cards is placed on a table, the magician makes a motion towards them, and they suddenly get the impulse to spin. A half deck or full deck can also be used and will rotate at a slower speed. Can be done in the hand.
The Spinorama Card gimmick is a mechanical device which can be used to create a quick, flashy spin effect.
Hard to Build
Arts & Crafts materials required, (such as crazy glue, glue stick, putty, exacto blade) - plus some other inexpensive stuff. The gimmick has to be constructed. Best-suited for crafty builder types who enjoy mechanical projects.
Some cutting with a utility knife / exacto would require adult supervision
The principle can be adapted to make other things spin, such as a box of crayons, a DVD, a matchbox, etc.
