Imagine 2 cards freely chosen and then lost in a shuffled deck. A rubber band is placed around the deck and the deck is placed on the table (or on the hand). In an instant, a chosen card is released. Then the second chosen card also becomes free.
All other cards are still surrounded by the rubber band and can be given away for examination.
