Alex Hansford - The Neat Review (Issue 4): Everywhere by Alex Hansford

Issue Four takes us all over the world.

We go to Los Angeles with Helder Guimar?es as he takes us backstage at his virtual shows at the Geffen Playhouse, then to London where Guy Hollingworth shares an unpublished, full-length card routine, and showcases his nearly-finished follow-up to his incredible Drawing Room Deceptions. We visit Raleigh, in North Carolina, and meet underground legend Dennis Kim, who, in 38 pages of searing detail, tips a very difficult and very beautiful Three-Fly with cards. Then, dear readers, a stones throw to Berlin, where Will Houstoun teaches an impossible mentalism effect that you will be able to perform everywhere and, curiously, nowhere.

We hop to Paris with FISM-winner Pierric, who discusses understating magic and performance art, and over to Toronto, with Shawn DeSouza-Coelho, who shares some footnotes to his upcoming book on aesthetic philosophy in magic under our NEAT REVIEW imprint, 'Magic as Medium.' Then finally, to Beijing, with artist Liu Bolin, who describes precisely why he is disappearing all over the globe. Then, just before home-time, we stop off by the North Wessex Downs in England, where Robert Gill muses, with tongue-firmly-in-cheek, "What is Magic?" Thankfully, he leaves us with a penultimate definition.

London, Los Angeles, Raleigh, Berlin, Paris, Toronto, Beijing, and the North Wessex Downs.

Quite a list for a fourth issue. It would be incredibly difficult, you would surmise, to imagine all of that being contained inside a single art journal. But indeed, this is THE NEAT REVIEW Issue Four, and contain it all we do-or at least we try. The ideas are a-brimming inside these lithographically printed and sewn-bound pages, and you'd be very welcome to buy one and see them for yourself, if that's what you fancy.
